MU* History Month - August 2026

An invitation to share your game's origin story, a little-known fact, or a slice of its history that might not be written down anywhere else. The plan is to showcase these stories on Writing Games with a link to each game. Questions? Reach out to Andruid!

Step 1 of 1

Submit your story using the form below by Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Choose a prompt:

  • The game's origin story. What were things like at the time?

  • How the game got its name.

  • A time the game survived a disaster. How did it manage to pull through?

  • A tradition unique to the game. How did it start?

  • An unexpected event that changed the course of the game's history.

  • Someone or something that had a profound impact on the game or served as its inspiration.

  • How the game changed your life.

...or any other bit of history you think is worth sharing with the community. :)

Does the story have to be about a multi-user (MU*) game such as a MUD, MUSH, or MOO?
Yes.

Do I have to submit my story via this form?
No - it's just for convenience. If you prefer, you can use any of the methods here.

Can I submit a story about a game that's no longer around?
Sure! If it's a memory worth sharing, why not?

Does the game have to be older/long-running?
Nope, but since this is a celebration of game history, it's better if the game has or had an active playerbase at one time.

What if I'm not sure about my topic, or I'm not a good writer?
No worries! Happy to answer any questions you might have or help with editing until you're comfortable.

Will only some stories be chosen?
Nope! It's not a contest, it's just a chance to share something memorable about a game you love. It's also an opportunity for me (and readers) to learn about these games, so don't be shy!

What if I want to post my story on my own website too/instead?
Go for it! Happy to link to it or share it around as part of the event. :)

The name of the game.
